4 Months of Overdue Posts!!!

From my last post until now Ive been super busy. This spring/summer has be wild! I took my first CSS/HTML class(April) which was interesting. I had to retake my first class at Full Sail which was a bit discouraging since it was my first coding class ever. :/ I failed it the first time and got an A the second. We had to create a single page site for the class, while learning responsive design for the first time.

The second class was in June (Web Standard Project) Which I passed with a B+ :). In that class we had to complete a multi-page website redesign. Which was hard also at first, with only one month of CSS.HTML under my belt I noticed I have great creativity but can not find a way to make it look as I imagined since I have yet learned enough.

I'm actually in my last week of {Psychology of Human Interaction} which was a bit of a bore. It taught us about group interaction and what not. I enjoyed the people I got to work with though. They were awesome! We created a podcast tutorial about problem solving in regards to the book we were to read for the month.

A few of the assignments I've completed the past few months :)

I know I need a lot of work!! I'm just starting out and I know that I will need to invest a lot of time. I guess I wish I knew more people I can learn from. The Internet can only help you but so much.

New Class: Intellectual Property and Law

Intellectual Property and Law

The Facts of Life as a Designer!

In this class we will be covering a great deal of important information that will be beyond beneficial.  Covering things like common business practices including finance, accounting, insurance, taxes, management, marketing, and negotiation. I'm pretty excited about learning about copyright, and basic business and contract law.

I completed my first discussion where we are talking about " What are the pros and cons of eliminating intellectual property laws?" I'm enjoying what many of my classmates are posting about the pros and cons!

Still taking my pre-req classes. :/

So far I've taken

Some classes where better then others, just like some professors were more involved then others. All in all my experience at Full Sail has been well. Im a self started and don't mind doing a little extra to get ahead. Even with my full time schedule of have  to tend to my 3 year old I alway have time to do my work and then more. Its all about using your time wisely and having a sense of urgency about things on your "list" The toughs classes I've had would be Mobile media 2 & Networks Server Structures. I had no prior knowledge of PHP and it was a good starter for me in the NSS course. I knew nothing about Illustrator either until MM2, I learned a lot but wished I could've stayed a bit longer to learn more.

If you have any questions about any of the classes don't hesitate to ask!

I'm pretty excited about the classes to come, I've been prepping for them with other online tutorials.

I recently found out that Full Sail has updated their Web design and development program curriculum and it contains some well needed classes I wish I was taking. Check them out : http://www.fullsail.edu/degrees/online/web-design-development-bachelors/courses

So God Made a Designer

God Made a Designer

Published on Feb 17, 2013 http://www.risingabovethenoise.com Inspired by RAM's commercial in this year's Super Bowl featuring a recorded speech given by legendary radio broadcaster Paul Harvey (from the 1978 National Future Farmers of America Convention), "God Made a Farmer" -- this "parody" with impersonation by Jim Meskimen ( http://www.jimpressions.net ) features, design, logo design, branding and a cameo appearance by Shark Tank star Daymond John. Written by brand identity specialist David Brier for his Fast Company blog, this celebrates what designers do to make the world a better place.

Higher Edu vs Self-taught

To go to school or not go to school for web design?

In the tech field where you hear so much about the success stories of one who dropped out of school, how could you not ask your self this question?

This is a question I asked my self before I started my program at FS and decided education/degree was needed since I hope to work in the corporate sector. For the most part i felt that school was the road for me, that doesn't mean it's the road for everyone else. With resources online today I can be hard no to look at other less expensive avenues. You have sites like Codecademy,  Lynda.com, www.treehouse.com and codeschool.com to say the least that offer all types of hands on courses that can teach you all you need to know. With  higher educations prices on the rise young adults can be fearful when jumping into so called "good debt" when all they hear about is the lack of jobs to go around.

Being self-taught

Pros

  1. Cost - The number one benefit of teaching your self is the savings. Besides books and online tutorial course you will be saving more then half the cost.
  2. You go at your own pace, you can focus on more of the things you need to focus on without being rushed.
  3. You are a product of who you learn from, with the world at you fingertips you can connect and follow the best out there.

Cons

  1. What you save in $$$ you pay with time!
  2. One can over look very important fundamentals focus on the task at hand.
  3. Must be a self started and drive, one can easily become lax and fall behind.

I personal is signed up with multiple site to teach my self extra or to prep me for course to come. I find that helpful in more ways then one. I'm not telling anyone what to do just touching on a few facts/opinions whatever you what to call them. All in all make decision based one your lifestyle and how you would like to live it. Go based on your priority and hopefully you won't regret it.

New Year, New Blog!!

Happy New Years!

Its 2013 and told my self I officially document my journey at Full Sail University.

Im an afro rocking, Ke$ha music loving, 24 year old mother to a future diva and wife to a business mogul in the making! I'am currently studying web design & development online at Full Sail University. I love things that sparkle and was born with glitter in my veins and codes on my brain! After I graduated high school in 07' I tried my hands at college (originally for pharmacy) then but 08' I fell in love and ended up in Las Vegas getting married!! By 09' I was giving birth to my daughter and was thinking "OMG I so did this backward... Hubby & kid??? No degree!" Lived in Tulsa OK for a bit then ending back in FL now living in Orlando and attending Full Sail University. I guess I'm doing a great job at being a mom and wife my family is still together! Even after a few bumps in the road we are tighter then ever. Once my family and I got things on track I made a big decision and decided to go to school for web design and development. Weird huh? From pharmacy to web design, I've always had a love for science and technology but notice my career & family life wouldn't have been for a while if I focused on PharmD so here I'm walking nah more like running down this road of technology.

I started April 30th 2012 and due to grad around July 2014. This month the class I will be focused on will be Geometry and Measurement. Most of the classes the first few months were mostly pre req course. While making this blog I'm hoping to reach and network with others in my field or ones like my self who are trying to break into it.

Mobile Media Design I

Mobile Media Design II
